Description

NGC 1579 is a red nebula. For this reason, Sharpless identified it as a star-forming HII region, and included it in his catalog as Sh2-222. However, although it contains some emission zones, its red color is due to the filtering of light by dust clouds located between the nebula and us. NGC 1579 is 2,100 light-years away, and its light suffers an extinction phenomenon as it passes through a dust cloud called Lynds 1482, located 500 light-years away. It belongs to the Taurus-Auriga molecular cloud. The Perseus OB2 association is also in the same line of sight. I did not know this fact, and I took a series of shots with an HII filter that I only used by adding them to the luminance, since they did not provide better contrast. The nebula is strongly dimmed, with numerous dark fringes. The seeing was not good enough to capture them in detail. I had to throw away over five hours of apparently good shots, which reduced my chances of processing.
